Few Berlin neighbourhoods have changed as much as Prenzlauer Berg. In East German times it was an old working-class district with grey façades. After reunification artists, students and young families moved in, and today it is one of the most sought-after areas in the city.
On this tour we taste that change. We visit Kollwitzmarkt, the neighbourhood's market, a high-end artisanal Konditorei, and a German restaurant that is far from a tourist trap. Along the way there is specialty coffee, international market food and small producers who opened here in recent years.
Between stops we talk about life in East Berlin, about what happened to the neighbourhood after 1990, and about who lives here today.
It is a good tour for anyone who already knows Berlin's classics and wants to see where the city's food is going.
Before you come: come hungry, because there are 5–6 tastings, enough for a big lunch. Wear comfortable shoes, and bring a Berlin AB ticket (not included).
